89. "The Dawn" |
| |
1. |
By the Dawn |
2. |
And ten nights, |
3. |
And the Even and the Odd, |
4. |
And the night when it departs, |
5. |
There surely is an oath for thinking person.
6. |
Do you not consider how thy Lord dealt with the tribe of A'ad,
7. |
With the city of Iram of the Pillars,
8. |
The like of which was not created in the lands;
9. |
And with the tribe of Thamud, who hid behind the rocks in the valley;
10. |
And with the powerful Pharaoh of Egypt, |
11. |
Who all were rebellious to Allah in these lands,
12. |
And multiplied wickedness upon wickedness.
13. |
Therefore thy Lord did pour on them His chastisement.
14. |
Behold! thy Lord is ever watchful.
15. |
As for mankind, whenever his Lord challenges him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he says: My Lord honors me.
16. |
But whenever He challenges him by making life easier, he says: My Lord despises me.
17. |
No, but you for your part honor not the orphan
18. |
And urge not on the feeding of the poor.
19. |
And you devour heritages with devouring greed.
20. |
And love wealth with abounding love.
21. |
No, but when the world is in great turmoil,
22. |
And the Lord shall reveal One Heaven
23. |
And it seems the Earth has become hell; then on that day mankind will remember, but how will his memory then avail him?
24. |
He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me some provision for my life!
25. |
None punishes as the Lord will judge on that day!
26. |
None binds as the Lord then will bind.
27. |
But ah! You soul at peace! |
28. |
Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure!
29. |
Enter you among the loyal servants of God!
30. |
Enter you One Heaven! |
