Similar to the common End Times prophecy of the coming of a one-world religious system is the prophecy that the End Times we will see the establishment a one-world political system. This remains a highly controversial prophecy between Judaism, Christianity and various extreme sects within Christianity.

In Islam, the Mahdi is traditionally seen as having the authority of Caliph- historically the highest political office in Islam. Therefore the coming of a one-world government under the Mahdi is strongly implied in End Times prophecy in Islam.
This prophecy is also frequently misinterpreted as part of the prophecy of the coming Kingdom of God on Earth. In Jewish tradition, the two prophecies are seen as complimentary, but in Christian End Times Prophecy, the uniting of political leaders under a single leadership is seen as a clear sign of the coming of the antichrist.

Terms such as “New World Order” which have been used by various world leaders such as Republican American Presidents and even past and present Catholic Popes have been seen by many extremist groups as a sign of certain individuals being the “antichrist”. Similarly, the advent of the United Nations in 1948 is seen by many as the date of fulfillment of this End Times Prophecy.

As Islam does not yet recognize this crucial prophecy implied in the Holy Qur'an and the history of the prophets, there are no substantive discourse concerning this prophecy in modern Islam.
